A key position within the Engineering team intended to provide a high degree of technical expertise and design-management skills in the building services engineering, from initial concept through to project certification. The Mechanical Associate Engineer will play a key role within the development of this team and organisation. Within a specialist engineering Consultancy linked to a highly successful M&E Contractor this role offers an excellent opportunity to progress their career into a senior decision-making role. The electrical associate will have a track record within M&E Consulting with an associated Professional Accreditation. Based in the Hertfordshire Head Office there is also a London office where the individual can work from though much of the time will be travelling to site and also meeting clients and other associated internal and external stakeholders. The Associate will need to have an understanding and preferably experience within Mechanical Design for Critical Installations which would include both Pharmaceutical and also Data Centre installations for example

About the Role:

  • Development of concept/scheme designs from drawings or site surveys
  • Compilation of budget costs for project work involving close liaison with the Estimating team
  • Provide design information for Estimating team to price as sufficiently and accurately as required by client brief
  • Assist in the compilation of tender return documents by providing all necessary technical detail and commentary where required
  • To present and justify proposed solutions to client teams
  • Design development through the whole project lifecycle from project briefing through to implementation
  • Design management of multidisciplinary project design team through the whole project life-cycle
  • Manage any external design resource engaged to deliver detailed design work
  • Close liaison with the Divisional Contracts Managers and their teams to ensure technical accuracy at delivery stage
  • To actively oversee any key site based operations that warrant a high level of technical expertise be present
  • To work with the delivery teams to formulate robust commissioning, Integrated Systems Testing and certification plans
  • Development of customer base working with existing and new clients
  • Ensure that the company's Health, Safety & Environmental policies and procedures re constantly adhered to in all aspects of Building Services Design
  • Be conversant with the company standards, associated guidance manuals and technical standards, regulations relevant to the design & technical engineering needs of the Company
  • Development of fee proposals and financial management of project team, including subcontractors, through the whole project life-cycle

About the Candidate:

  • Degree qualified in a relevant field of engineering and shall either be a chartered member of The Engineering Council (UK), or working towards obtaining chartered status
  • Strong background in the design and design-management of building services engineering, particularly in business critical environments
  • Capable of acting as lead-designer in managing a multidisciplinary design team, (incl. architectural and structural engineering), through the whole lifecycle of a project
  • An essential member of the Engineering team, providing both technical design support to the other teams, as well as producing, managing and delivering consultative design commissions to clients
  • Act as principal engineer/consultant on assigned projects, and shall oversee and manage other members of the project design team, including subcontractors.
  • Ensure accuracy, quality and consistency of the design information produced
  • Responsible for the development of project fee proposals and the financial management of project design team through the project, including subcontractors
