Quantity Surveyor - High End Retail Fit Out - £65k - London. A very interesting and unique opportunity for a proven Senior Quantity Surveyor with experience in High End Retail Fit Out who will be site based in one of the World’s most luxurious establishments. The successful candidate will work within an extremely fast paced environment and will carry out more of a hands on role rather than strategic whilst being rewarded with an attractive remuneration.

About the Client:

My client specialise in designing, producing and installing exceptional luxury interiors for retail, commercial and residential properties. They have close to 25 years' experience of installing bespoke interiors for the retail outlets of luxury brands, companies and high-net-worth individuals. Thanks to the outstanding results they have achieved for their clients, they have built a business on personal recommendation – if you live in London, you've almost certainly seen their work in high-end retail stores. Complete interiors from design to construction. My client manage over 100 dedicated staff as well as their own in-house joinery operation. This gives them the versatility to provide a complete service of exceptional quality, including multi-media installations, specialist shop fitting and major refurbishment works. They work across a wide range of sites, including retail outlets, hotel and leisure facilities, luxury private homes and commercial office spaces.

About the Role:

Procurement of Sub-Contractors
  • Prepare tender documents
  • Evaluate tender returns and provide recommendation to Contracts Director/Commercial Manager
  • Prepare and send Sub-Contract Order documents to appointed Contractor
  • Ensure receipt of all relevant documents from Sub-Contractor before their works commence on site
Sub-Contractor Payments
  • Ensure monthly/fortnightly valuations fall in line with payment dates
  • Check/agree interim valuation, request invoice and issue along with payment certificate to Commercial Manager/Contracts Director/Accounts
  • Provide payment forecast to Commercial Manager/Contracts Director/Accounts
  • Check and confirm any variations
  • Issue instruction for additional works where necessary
Bank / Client Valuations
  • Check and agree monthly valuations against contract sum
  • Agreed valuation should cover actual spend on project
Material Procurement
  • Provide specification and quantity for all bulk material to buyer
  • Gain approval from relevant consultant for cheaper equivalent alternative material where possible for eg insulation
  • Schedule bulk material accordingly to assist site call off
  • Ensure material orders are in place in accordance with site programme
  • Material being used on site should be monitored so that additional material is added to order
  • Design changes should be monitored so that additional material is added to order
Sub-Contractor Design / Specialist Supplier Design
  • Manage approval process of drawings
  • Send relevant consultant drawings to designer
  • Once in receipt of design drawings send to consultant’s comments/approval
  • Once drawing approved material to be ordered / advise contractor to proceed
  • The above process should be in line with site programme
Design Team / Consultant Meetings
  • Attend meetings to keep up to date with design progress
  • Carry out market research/cost analysis for design proposals where required
  • Action any relevant points raised in meetings
Planning / S106 Obligations
  • Assist in obtaining/producing information to discharge conditions for project
  • Ensure procurement is in line with requirements for eg CfSH
Site Queries
  • Assist site team/Sub-Contractors with technical queries
  • Contact relevant consultant/designer if required to
Sub-Contractor Progress Meetings
  • Monitor along with PM/Site Team contractor progress against contract programme
  • Assist in ensuring that the contractor is working in line with issued contract
  • Assist in resolving any issues raised
Site Procurement Meetings
  • Action relevant issues raised in meetings
  • Raise any procurement issues that the site team need be made aware of
  • Assist in resolving any issues raised

About the Candidate:

  • Minimum of 7-10 years’ experience as a Quantity Surveyor
  • Experience in High End Retail Fit Out will be an advantage
  • Commercially astute, numerate, risk averse & able to accurately forecast cost & sales
  • Multi-tasking, self-motivated, energetic team player with a flexible and adaptable approach to work
  • A competent manager ideally as you will manage and mentor an Assistant QS
  • Must be able to understand tenders
  • Have good practical organisation skills, planning of resources and programme scheduling
  • Be able to provide both summarised and detailed reports, on current activities
  • Prioritise and organise, taking a methodical approach
  • Self-motivated, enthusiastic with a high standard of personal performance
  • Flexible and reliable
  • Ability to use own initiative
  • Present information clearly, concisely and professionally
  • Attention to detail
  • Customer focused
  • Communicator & motivator with ability to communicate across all levels of seniority from the workface through to Senior Management level
