About the Client:

My client are an established and successful family run company who are specialists in the design, production and erection of Structural Steel and architectural Metalwork. They have the ability to deliver their clients vision through understanding and dealing effectively with functional and site-specific considerations which has resulted in a business that has grown primarily through referrals and repeat business.

About the Role:

  • Carrying out steel take offs; measuring and qualifying material from engineers and architect’s drawings / specifications
  • Developing cost estimating for structural steel and architectural structures
  • Projects typically ranging from £50k - £5 million including key building refurbishments, commercial buildings, new builds, bespoke feature staircases and data centre framework
  • Preparation of detailed quotations, pricing schedules and presentation documents for the tender bid
  • Establishing Budgets for the Commercial, Procurement and Project Teams
  • Reviewing and advising on Proposed Client Contract Documentation
  • Attending Client Pre-tender meetings
  • Preparation of Handover Documentation to the Commercial and Project Team
  • Reporting to the Managing Estimator & liaising with staff and clients at all levels
  • Maintaining and improving the quality of estimating techniques and processes
  • Following up of submitted quotations to maintain a continuous and profitable workload

About the Candidate:

  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience working as an estimator is essential
  • Have a good understanding of technical drawings, construction methods and engineering principals
  • Education to degree level or equivalent (or a high level of experience)
  • Strong maths and analytical skills with a methodical approach to work
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills to coordinate effectively with clients, engineers and suppliers
  • Ability to prioritise and work under pressure whilst meeting tight deadlines
  • Success in developing healthy, long term client relationships
  • Strong planning, organisation and time management skills
  • A good working knowledge of MS Excel and spreadsheet programs and the ability to learn how to use specialist software such as StruMIS and Tekla
  • Must be reliable
